Officially I became a wife in 2002, but before that I hadn’t referred to E as a boyfriend in years. We were a packaged deal, our names with an “and” in the center became one word spoken by friends and family with familiarity as any other word.

I do believe it was our fourth date that began with a snowy stroll there. Our second date, Inauguration Day, was when he revealed he was a Republican. Still, we were about to embark on a new era of hope and change in the country and I was prepared to follow suit in my own life.
