She’d have everyone sit at the table (everyone being her and I – E and my brother) and write down wishes for the following year. No unattainable goals or predictions, just a little written time capsule of hopes, expectations, fears, or even just a hello. We’d put them in sealed envelopes to be read the following year.
A sweet exercise that felt very forced with our small family.

Proms and graduations, sneaking beers in the woods, working through college; all there but in a haze where I think some of it might be imagined. When I think about my wedding day, the first memory my brain lets through the gate is the night before when I was pulled over for the first time.
